Teen Presumed Drowned When Canoe Overturns
A 17-year-old boy is missing and presumed drowned after he and a friend overturned their canoe in Lucile Lake in Wasilla on Friday. The two friends tipped the canoe about 1:25 a.m., Wasilla Police Chief Irl Stambaugh said. The friend managed to swim to shore. The other boy didn't. Stambaugh said rescue crews were searching the lake late Friday for the second boy. Neither boy was wearing a life jacket, he said. Police hadn't releasing their names as of late Friday.
Drowning Victim Identified
Wasilla police have identified the body of a 17-year-old boy pulled from Lake Lucile on Saturday as Andrew Joseph Soltis of Chugiak. Soltis disappeared Friday after he and a friend overturned in a canoe on the lake, near Wasilla.
