Searchers discover body of man lost in Christmas Eve snowstorm
The long search for Gary Seetook is over.
Alaska State Troopers said the 29-year-old's body was found Tuesday about 2 miles northwest of Wales on some sea ice.
Seetook had been missing since Christmas Eve, when he left his mother's house in Wales after attending a Christmas play with friends and relatives earlier in the night.
Seetook's family urged him not to walk home that night because there was a blizzard, but Seetook didn't take their advice and set out for his apartment just four blocks away. He never made it.
Volunteers from several neighboring villages helped locals in a massive search for Seetook, but only one of his tennis shoes was initially found.
Troopers said Friday they believe Seetook became disoriented in the snowstorm. No foul play is suspected, they said.
