Times, 8/28/78

The Alaska State Troopers reported Monday that the body of an Anchorage man who apparently fell to his death while on a climb of Pioneer Peak has been recovered.

The body of Richard W. Metz, 28, was recovered Sunday from the 3,600-foot level of the peak 10 miles southwest of Palmer.

The Troopers said Metz and a companion, 31-year-old Thomas W. Hardy of Anchorage, became separated while on the peak Sunday morning.  Hardy returned to Anchorage, believing Metz would also return home.

Hardy reported Metz missing later Sunday when he failed to show up as expected.  State park rangers, Air Rescue Council members and Army and Air Force personnel took part in the search which located Metz' body.
